On behalf of the Secretariat and the entire MUNSA staff, I would like to welcome you to participate in MUNSA XXV: Horizons. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged us to find new ways of engaging our wonderful MUNSA community while creating a conference experience that is safe and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Horizons is about looking to the future as a global community and using collaboration, respectful diplomacy, and innovative ideas to overcome the challenges that face our world. It is about harnessing the full power of ingenuity and adaptation to create a sustainable and safe future. It is with this spirit of innovation and responsibility that we are announcing for the first time ever, MUNSA will be an online conference. Our Secretariat and staff are hard at work to ensure that we continue to offer delegates the best experience possible while ensuring the safety of everyone involved, and we are excited to see the new possibilities that this change can open for our conference.
This year, MUNSA XXV: Horizons will be held on Thursday and Friday, January 7-8, 2021. The MUNSA XXV will be held on Zoom. Resources for using this platform will be sent out as the conference date gets closer.
Registration for MUNSA XXV opened on October 5 and will be open until December 7, 2020. An additional late registration period will be open from December 7 to December 11, 2020. Please be aware that during the late registration period there will be extra $10 added to the original $30 delegate fee. After late registration ends on December 11, no refunds will be provided to schools who withdraw from the conference and no additional registrations may be made.
Going virtual has greatly reduced the costs of attending MUNSA this year. The school fee this year is $55 and will cover the school’s registration and the cost of sending two sponsors to the conference. There is an additional $15 fee per sponsor if you would like to send more than two sponsors. The cost per delegate is $30 and includes a t-shirt which will be sent to your campus along with materials and resources for sponsors. The MUNSA XXV Secretariat knows that these are difficult times for many of our delegates, so we have expanded our Horizons Scholarship opportunities for students with an interest in MUNSA who may face financial barriers to attending our conference. The MUNSA Horizons Scholarship is available until November 30, 2020 for interested delegates. Although not every applicant will receive the scholarship, delegates are encouraged to take this opportunity to apply using this link.
Jr. MUNSA, our program for middle school students, will also be taking place online this year. The cost per sponsor will be $15 and the cost per delegate will be $20. A minimum of one sponsor per school is required to participate in Jr. MUNSA. Please contact me with any questions you may have about this program and to be added to our Jr. MUNSA mailing list.
As we work on making this conference accessible, the MUNSA Secretariat has begun to put a great deal of thought into how to make our conference and MUN more equitable. MUNSA’s first-ever Equity and Inclusion Plan will be available soon on our website. I have linked a summary of the plan, which addresses economic barriers to participating in MUN as well as discrimination and bullying within the activity through a new Ethics and Anti-Bullying Code. We are excited about the steps we are taking to make our beloved conference more inclusive, and we encourage you to engage with us in the work of creating a more equitable MUN community.
I am also pleased to announce that MUNSA XXV: Horizons has partnered with the International Youth Foundation (IYF) this year, and a portion of the proceeds from fundraisers and conference fees will benefit their work around the world to empower young people. IYF is committed to the idea that “educated, employed, and engaged young people possess the power to solve the world’s toughest problems.” This is a truly remarkable organization, and I encourage you and your delegation to engage with them on their website, which I have linked above. We are particularly excited about their Global Youth Resiliency Fund, which will help young people mobilize in response to the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting youth-led ventures. Engaging with the IYF is a wonderful way to remain involved with our organization for the time being.
We hope that you will continue to engage with our conference through social media. You can follow our Instagram at @munsanantonio , Facebook at MUN San Antonio, and our Twitter, @munsanantonio for more information on our organization!
If you are a sponsor of a school that has not attended MUNSA before or if you have attended MUNSA before but want to be contacted at a different email than you have previously registered with, please fill out this form to be added to our mailing list.
